For the first time, there’s a new brand identity for the women’s 15s rugby competition in the country.
The Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer, John O’Connor revealed this as they celebrated the International Women’s Day with the theme ‘Break the Bias’ at Albert Park, Suva, yesterday.
He officially announced the Fiji Rugby Marama Championship, Fiji Rugby Ranadi Cup and the Fiji Secondary Schools Raluve Championship.
O’Connor said the Marama Championship is for Tier 1 competition, which involves eight provincial teams battling it out on a weekly home and away basis in a round robin format.
The Ranadi Cup will be for Tier 2 competition played amongst the teams participating in the Vanua Championship while the Raluve is for secondary schools competition.
O’Connor who unveiled the Fiji Rugby Marama Championship logo said, the symbol represents the flower in full bloom and players reaching the top.
“From now on, the Marama Championship has a brand new identity, which reflects ambition and where diversity is celebrated and everyone should feel welcome,” he said.
O’Connor also acknowledged the ANZ Bank for coming onboard to sponsor the Marama Championship for the next three years.
ANZ Fiji Country head Rabih Yazbek said they are pleased to be extending their support for rugby at all levels and creating a platform for women to compete in a world class competition.
“Sport in one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls,” he said.
