Despite the Fiji Airways Fijiana sevens team nonparticipation at the Vancouver and Edmonton 7s this month, coach Saiasi Fuli is having no rest.
The Olympic bronze medal winning coach has already started recruiting young guns into his extended squad.
With the team not playing in the next two tournaments, it has given him more time to develop more young players for future tournaments.
“It will give us more time to prepare and develop our squad especially the new intakes,” Fuli said.
“It can provide a good platform for us to play more domestic rugby and allow us more time to devise our next strategy for the new season.
“We have few recruits which can solidify the long-term pathway for Fijian 7s.
Some for the new inclusion into the squad are Adi Cakobau School sprinter, Naomi Navuga, Latter Day Saints sprinter Sereana Vulaono, Nadroga’s first five eighth,Ivamere Nabura, Suva winger, Maria Rokotuisiga and Police halfback Mereani Rogosau.
However, Fuli will keep his core squad from the Olympic Games, including those who were injured.
“Yes, I will keep them and incorporate the new squad members.
“There are a few more who will go through our pathway process of screening, skill assessment and conditioning test,” Fuli added.
Fuli was the first local coach to have won an Olympic medal.
