No Retreat No Surrender: Seru

We have to be tight in defence especially our one-on-one and we need to ensure that we don’t give any gaps for them to run.

The Cakaudrove women’s rugby side will be gunning for that crucial win against arch rivals Kadavu in their final promotion relegation clash at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu, today.

This was the gist of Cakaudrove head coach Ana Seru’s interview with SUNsports yesterday.

‘’Our preparation has been looking good and we’re just polishing on some areas that we need to improve on,” Seru said.

“Otherwise, we are focused and ready to play Kadavu.”

Seru said it is a must win for her side in order to qualify for the ANZ Marama Championship next season.

“If we lose, it has to be a bonus point loos and we’re depending on Tailevu to lose to Navosa.

“Otherwise, if we lose; with Tailevu winning then they remain in the Marama Championship.”

Seru said the target she has set for the team is to win against the Ranadi Cup winners.

“We have to improve our defensive line because at times we tend to slack off and that was where Kadavu exploited us,’’ she said ‘’We have to be tight in defence especially our one-on-one and we need to ensure that we don’t give any gaps for them to run.”

Seru said the team did well in the game against Navosa last week to keep their chances alive. “They were focused on that game but at times we tend to switch off, but fortunately they stuck to the game plan,” she said.”

“We had stuck to basic rugby and tried not to give away a lot of penalties.”

Seru said they would have to give in their one hundred percent effort in a do-or-die game.

“All the players will have to play as a united front in attack and defence. “Like they usually say, no retreat and no surrender.”

The rematch of the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup final between Cakaudrove and Kadavu will kick-off at 1pm.
