Fijian Pearls recorded their second Test win against Singapore 64-57 on Thursday night. The team won the first Test 65-57 on Wednesday.
The Matila Waqanidrola- captained side had a strong start in the first quarter with a strong shooting circle combination of Lydia Panapasa (GS) and Unaisi Rauluni (GA) continuously hunting for opportunities at the circle and the defence combination of Episake Kahatoka (GK) and Kelera Nawai (GD) caused turnovers and on most occasions deny Singapore shooters possession.
Fiji enjoyed most possession in the first quarter to lead 17-12.
The Fijians lifted the intensity in the second quarter with quick legs from mid court players feeding the two shooters using a three passes game plan tactic captivated the Fijian fans.
The 1.9-metre tall Panapasa continuously used her height to her advantage in the shooting circle as she aims her target from lob passes while Kahatoka continuously won possessions with her great defending skills causing turnovers as Fiji led 38-23 at halftime.
Head coach Vicki Wilson reminded the team of their attacking skills and winning possessions through interceptions and the importance of holding on to their lead.
Waqanidrola made a slow start and was replaced in the third quarter with Kahataoka.
The shooters continue to amaze the spectators with their silky shooting skills making each goal count as they extend their lead 53-37 at the end of the third quarter.
The Pearls continue to dominate the fourth quarter but few basic errors forced the home side to close the margin but were too late as Fiji won 64-57 at full time.
Meanwhile, Fiji Pearls’ are ranked 14th and Singapore 24th in the world rankings.
