Olympian and Pacific sprint king, Banuve Tabakaucoro, is the lone athlete that has confirmed his spot for the Saipan Pacific Mini Games.
Dubbed the Bau Bullet, Tabakaucoro has indicated that he is in top form, he hopes to have more competition in Australia before the June games.
For the Australian outing, he is awaiting his travel confirmation from Athletics Fiji and Fiji Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC).
The biggest challenge now is not having enough local competitors.
“Right now we are just trying to get over to Australia for more competition. I’m in good form, no injuries– so that’s a good sign,” Banuve said.
“Basically we just go into our sprint training, we all need competition. I need people that are running a lot faster, so I can improve myself.
“Challenge is the competition that we have here. In Australia, there are runners running at my speed and better.”
The Saipan Games will see the former Marist Brothers High School student participate in his fourth Mini Games.
“I have not been paying attention to what other countries have been doing. I just want to improve myself and focus on what I need to do right and when the day comes, we’ll see who the challenger is.
Tabakaucoro also acknowledged his sponsors FMF for staying on board throughout his journey.
Northern Marianas are hosting the Pacific Mini Games from June 17 – 25.
