Fiji Rugby Union Trust board interim chairman Peter Mazey is committed to get the Rugby House in order before January 2024.

Yesterday in a press conference at the FRU headquarters, he highlighted a number of issues of concern in the first month following their appointment by Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga.

Poor budgeting and financial management was one of the big issues which resulted in FRU accumulating a debt of over $3.5m; Mazey has indicated that there could be more.

Other issues include governance, transparency, lack of clear direction and strategy in rugby programmes and operations.

Mazey said that while they’ve laid out their dead lines to achieve targets, time was not on their side.

Asked if he would get Rugby House in order by January as per World Rugby request, he said: “If we stop having to fight fires, then yes.”
