Forty bowlers will be participating in this year’s Pineapple Cup which will be held at the Suva Bowling club over the next two days, tomorrow and Sunday.

There are 32 participants in the men’s singles category plus eight women.

The 2022 Cup is sponsored by Kontiki Finance Limited which has been sponsoring the tournament for a number of years.

Kontiki Finance Limited marketing manager Katherine Nichols Reade said they were grateful to step in and sponsor this year’s tournament.

The Pineapple Cup was first played in 1928 and has been played every year except in 2020 due to COVID-19.

It is one of the oldest and most prestigious trophies donated by the late Malcolm Brodie (Scottish ancestry) on behalf of the company he was manager for many years.

Meanwhile Curtis Mar is the defending men’s while Sheryl Edwards is the defending women’s champion.

A total of $2000 prize money will be shared among winners, runners-up and losing semifinalists.
