Police Athletes to Put Duty First

"We will review it after sometime - we do not have a timeline yet, this is from us the operational side of things and not from the Acting Commissioner of Police."

Fiji Police Force athletes have shifted their focus to their calling and purpose - to serve the public.

This was the comment by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.

Yesterday, he said they needed numbers in their daily operations.

Currently, the force has withdrawn the participation of its sporting teams from local tournaments in all sports.

However, officers are excused for national sporting duties.

The participation of the sporting teams will be reviewed; those who are playing in provincial unions and football districts should seek approval from their Divisional Police Commander.

"We saw that there has been a lot of sporting release, which has affected our operations," Driu said.

"This does not mean we will withdraw from all sports, which has been rumoured.

"We will review it after sometime - we do not have a timeline yet, this is from us the operational side of things and not from the Acting Commissioner of Police."

Following the review, Driu will confirm how many teams they can field for a tournament.
