Despite Crusaders losing 33-29 to Chiefs in their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific opener on Friday, it was the standout performance of full-back Chay Fihaki that was talk of the night.
Fihaki is of Fijian descent scored two tries for Crusaders while winger Sevu Reece who is making a comeback from injury managed one touchdown.
Chiefs playing in front of their home crowd at the FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton secured the win after two late penalties from Josh Ioane.
Rebels’ Nightmare
A disappointed Rebels captain Rob Leota said they only had themselves to blame after their 30-3 drubbing to the Brumbies on Friday night.
“We were our own enemy,” Leota said.
He highlighted that their discipline really let them down.
The Rebels had numerous try scoring opportunities but it was the delivery of the final passes that did not go their way.
Winger Filipo Daugunu was moved to centre and had a tough night trying to settle into his new position.
Reds Next For Hurricanes
In Perth, Hurricanes had too much firepower in their 44-14 win over Western Force at the HBF Park.
Hurricanes No.8 Peter Lakai put on a sterling performance along with Asafo Aumua and Isaiah Walker-Leawere as they set the platform and not allowing the hosts to dictate the pace of the game.
Fijian wingers Kini Naholo and replacement Salesi Rayasi toiled hard. Rayasi managed to score a late try.
The Hurricanes take on Reds in this weekend’s Super Round in Melbourne, Australia.
