“We need to clear the vacuum. We have a document when they sign they’ve agreed and we expect them to live up to that contract. When they don’t the public hits back at the commission.”

Director confirms approval from ministry
Mulomulo Boxing Club’s Shamal Ramanuj will fight Rahul Kumar for the Fiji bantamweight title during the South Pacific Boxing Promotions at Tilak High School, Lautoka on April 13.
This was after a press conference in Nadi yesterday where the Boxing Commission of Fiji confirmed that for the programme was to go ahead.
BCF board member Usman Lale Ali said, “The Minister and the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports have cleared this programme to go ahead. What has transpired in the previous fight has been sorted out.”
Ali said boxers need to come to the right weight when they sign-up.
“We need to clear the vacuum. We have a document when they sign they’ve agreed and we expect them to live up to that contract. When they don’t the public hits back at the commission.”
Ali said the ring would be a standard one and there would be no repeat of the last programme where the canvas became slippery.
“I will want to give my best as this is a title fight,” Ramanuj said.
“I will fight tooth and nail for it. I am calling my fans to come out in numbers.”
The 28-year-old lost his first professional fight to Australia’s Sam Goodman in October last year. However he remains unbeaten locally.
“I did lose to the Commonwealth bronze medallist in the sixth round. “He was an experienced boxer and it’s good lead up to this event”
Promoter Freddy Chand said all boxers are given time to prepare and there should be no excuse from them.
