Earlier on, QVS junior boys 4x400m relay team ran a beautiful race win the gold medal. The relay quartet consisted of 15-year-old team captain Timoci Mataqaru, Seremaia Jiuta, Jale Waqawai and Nailatikau Buinivuaka.

“We really didn’t expect to win. It was a shock,” said Mataqaru

“One of our teammates even got injured earlier today during his 400m run, so we were worried but we just gave it our all.”

Despite the odds, the team’s preparation and spiritual discipline laid the foundation for their success.

“We fasted, we prayed every day,” Mataqaru shared.

“That was a big part of our preparation. We always believed God would carry us through.”
