Rabuka Hails Fijiana Drua For Super W Wins

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka hailed the achievements of the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua rugby team in recording back-to-back wins in the Super W competition on Friday night.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka hailed the achievements of the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua rugby team in recording back-to-back wins in the Super W competition on Friday night.

The Fijiana Drua became the first team outside of  Australia to win the Super W title.

“The team's remarkable victory in the women's Super Rugby competition for the second time has brought immense pride and joy to the nation,” said Rabuka.

He emphasised that their triumph has not only made Fiji proud but has also become an integral part of the country's sporting legacy.

Rabuka also extended his appreciation to the sponsors, including Rooster Chicken, the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Swire Shipping, Fiji Gas, Viti Solutions, and Tropik Wood Industries Limited for their contribution to the development of women rugby. 

The PM reaffirmed Government's commitment to support and invest in sports across the nation. 

“Government aims to establish new sports facilities and create a robust sporting ecosystem to foster the growth and success of talented athletes on the global stage,” Rabuka said. 

Expressing his gratitude to the management team, coaches, and support staff, Prime Minister Rabuka recognised their tireless efforts in shaping the Fijiana Drua players and creating an environment for the athletes to flourish. 

“Their dedication to excellence has been instrumental in achieving remarkable results and nurturing the team's potential.” 

In a show of appreciation, Rabuka announced a grant of $328,000 approved by the Cabinet to be awarded to the Drua side. 

“Each of the 32 team members will receive $8000, with the nine-team officials and it is our hope that this small token of appreciation will boost your morale and help you prepare well for the next season.” 

He emphasised the broader significance of this achievement, highlighting the unifying power of sports to transcend boundaries and instill national pride. 

“The success of the Fijiana Drua rugby team symbolises the core values of Fijians, including courage, resilience, and an unwavering spirit.” 

Fijiana Drua captain Bitila Tawake, conveyed the team's appreciation to the Prime Minister and his Government.

Tawake also apologised on behalf of the team for the recent outbursts that occurred during the past few weeks.
