Winning restarts is crucial for the New Zealand 7s men’s if they are to start strong in the 46th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament tomorrow.
The All Blacks 7s is in pool B with Marist, Police White and Malake.
Focus is on lanky NZ sevens skipper Sam Dickson, Reagan Ware and Amanaki Nicole to deliver.
Ware’s aerial ball skills, of¬floads and brutal defensive play will be vital in their campaign.
His ability to win restarts will surely match Dickson and Nicole’s hard and aggressive running.
Speaking to Marist rugby media captain Dickson said the AB’s sevens team have been working on their kick offs this week.
“There is a lot we need to improve on this weekend from our last week’s game,” Dikson said.
“Kick off is an area that we are looking to improve this week.
“Last week Fiji was kicking deep to us and that doesn’t happen often in the World Rugby Sevens Series,” he said.
“That play is a learning phase for us and we are working on ways to counter that area.
“We played last week in Nadi and it was very weird, but it was good to play with the Fijian sides, and has been good build up for this weekend.”
Dickson added, NZ has introduced a lot of young players in this tournament.
“We have lot of young boys who haven’t played in the World Series, yet it is so obvious that Fiji is a world class team,” he said.
“They are testing us in a lot of different areas which is good. We are learning every day.”
