The Rewa Rugby Union officials are hopeful of securing the services of former Flying Fijians captain Ro Alifereti Doviverata to be their head coach in this year’s Vodafone Vanua Cup competition.

Speaking to SUNsports, RRU Games chairman Jioji Daurewa said they have a new management and hoping to do that with their coaching staff as well.

“At the moment, we are having discussion with him (Doviverata) but he is yet to confirmed when he’ll join us,” he said.

Daurewa said they have not finalised their team for the season. The Vodafone Vanua Cup comp gets underway on Saturday, February 24, where Rewa hosts Northern Bulls at Burebasaga District School ground.

“We haven't had any training session yet, but the training programme has been sent to the players,” he said.

“We will soon be calling them to attend the training sessions as soon as the coaching staff have been confirmed.”

Daurewa said they have more than 30 players in their extended squad.

“Some of these players are in the villages and the others are working so hopefully they’re following the training programme.

“As soon we run our club competition, we will have open trials to select our final squad to represent Rewa in the championship.”

Daurewa has urged players to follow the training programme.

“We are facing a few financial challenges in our preparation for the new season as a minor union.

“We are looking for sponsors to be able to help prepare the team for the new season.”

Daurewa is pleading to the business sector for any form of sponsorship for the team.

“The target for this season is to get back to the Skipper Cup competition,” he added.
