Salanieta Wants To Meet Country’s Top Sprinters

Salanieta Viriviri is following her older brother’s footsteps.
Samisoni Viriviri, was the 2014 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year and a member of the gold medal winning Fijian men’s rugby 7s team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
Salanieta, is a name to watch during the Coca-Cola Games showdown at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on August 18-20.
The Dratabu, Nadi, native attends Swami Vivekananda College in Nadi and is the school’s best female athlete.
She will compete in the intermediate girls 100 metres, high jump and the 4x100m relay.
Salanieta scooped three gold medals during the Nadi Secondary Schools athletics zone competition at Churchill Park in Lautoka, last month.
“I’m just another student looking forward to face top student athletes around the country,” she said.
“I did not lose hope when the Coke Games did not take place due to the pandemic.
“Just like my brother I will have to do better. I’m following his footsteps.”
Salanieta has been part of athletics since primary school while attending Vuniyasi District School.
She has participated at the Chow Games.
Salanieta said her brother Samisoni was a good runner at Vuniyasi District before moving to Nadi College during his school days.
Meanwhile, Kitiana Kikau is hopeful of winning a medal in the intermediate girl’s javelin.
She won the gold medal during the Nadi Secondary Schools competition.
Also in the SVC squad is Emma Raravula who made the cut in the junior girl’s 4x100m relay.
SVC principal Rajesh Krishna said, their athletes are given a chance to represent the school and they should do their best.
“Those who are not training will be dropped from the team,” he added.
