Nadi based professional golfer Sam Lee is top favourite as he defends his title at the Gecko’s Trucking Presidents Cup 2021 at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club tomorrow.

Lee who over the years has had a strong hold on to the Fiji PGA’s Fiji Order of Merit points was finally relegated into second spot after Lautoka school teacher Roneel Prakash took out the Shop N Save Lautoka Open title last Saturday.

He said that he will bounce back, as Denarau is one of his best venues to play the 36-holes stroke event.

On the same note stiff competition is expected from Prakash and Tomasi Tuivuna who are all neck to neck in the standing.

“It will be a good test in the coming weekend at the Presidents Cup, to decide the Order of Merit winner. After the Lautoka Open, Roneel is leading the Order of Merit,” Lee said.

“It was a good windy day and surprisingly the course was quite dry with all the rain we’ve had over the past few weeks. The fairways were running and the greens were firm,” he said.

Recounting the episode at the Lautoka golf course, he said, “Roneel played well in the morning and shot two under par, so all the pros that played in the afternoon knew the score to beat.

“I didn’t start off well on the first nine holes, where I finished three over par."

"Then I had two birdies and an eagle to get shots back, but had three more bogeys on the back 9 to finish two over par.”

On the other hand, Prakash said, “It is back to practice for the Presidents Cup this week.”
