Amanu Jules Simpson has been qualified to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games af­ter he won a gold medal at the XVI Fiji Games Sailing Regatta at Suva Point Sailing Centre on Monday.

For the 17-year-old Savusavu lad this was his first gold medal in the Laser standard division which he has been participating in for the past four years.

“The competition was stiff but a good experience for me in testing my strength to push to the limit,” Simpson said.

“I have been sailing for 11 years as my future aim is to represent Fiji at the Olym­pics next year.

“As for the Pacific Games my aim is to win gold and make Fiji proud. For this I sacri­ficed my tertiary education after completing Year 13 at Savusavu Secondary School last year.”

Simpson said he’s now w full time sailor and is preparing well for the Pacific Games which will be on July 7-20.

“After I have done what I desire the most than I will pursue my dream by training to join Austral­ian Navy,” he added.
