Women from the provinces of Rewa, Tailevu and Naitasiri make-up the Waitui Waidroka 7s team that are currently playing in the Fun Flavour Super Fiji Rugby Sevens Series.

Team manager Arieta Sesenabaravi said the team was formed after a Level One coaching accreditation course was held at Natogadravu in 2019.

“There were a few coaches who sat for it and we planned to form a women’s team to represent the three provinces,” she said.

“Waitui (Sea or Ocean) and Waidroka (river) simply depicts the geographical location of some villages and districts whether located near the sea or near the river but it is within the province.”

The team had previously played in the Nausori 10s, Sawani 10s and the last leg of the Super Seven Series in 2021.

The side is led by Tailevu Women’s rugby captain Reapi Ditui who plays alongside Mereani Solevu (halfback/wing), Alanieta Serutia (first five eight), and Rishikul Sanatan College’s Year 10 student Lavenia Kapaiwai (prop).

“Our aim is to improve our game from the last time and gain more experience. To play against seasoned players in Lawaqa is a blessing in a disguise,” Sesenabaravi said.

“We are a new team and other teams seem to be more experienced. We are giving our best and we don’t want to underestimate any other team but to give our job.”
