Sigatoka Andhra Sangam College (SASC), has for the first time qualified for the Fiji Secondary School National Under 17 Inter District Championships (IDC) to be held in Labasa late next month.

The Taniela Navatu-captained side after taking out the Nadroga-Navosa zone title is now the South-West U17 champions.

The side drew nil-all with Lautoka Central College and also drew one-all with Swami Vivekananda College; the winner was decided by a coin toss.

SASC goal was scored by Aca Volavola. SVC had the services of Fiji Under 17 captain Aron Naicker.

Head coach Anal Prasad, proudly dedicated his team’s victory to sheer discipline and guts the boys delivered to achieve what was expected of them.

“A history is created as a small developing school has defied all odds and difficulties to prove its worth,” he said.

“We fended off strong and more resilient teams like Lautoka Central and Swami Vivekananda College of Nadi – they are winners in their own right. They also have national and district reps in their teams.”

He added that SASC’s victory served as a reminder and an inspiration as size did not matter; what matters is confidence, belief, and humbleness to write names in history books.

SVC Ex-Scholars Association chairperson Vineel Nand said they were gracious in defeat but the toss of the coin situation was a hard pill to swallow.

Another milestone for SVC was when they won the U14 and U15 netball titles in the Nadi zone.

Head of Department Deepak Narayan said the achievement was made possible with the help of coaches and teachers

The South-West champion, SASC will soon head to Labasa’s Subrail Park for the first time as under-dogs to play the northerners.
