Simione Ratu Wins 100m Final In Style

Ratu Navula College’s Simione Ratu took out the blue-ribbon event with an impressive time of 10.63 seconds during the Nadi Secondary Schools Ath­letic Zone meet at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

Waisale Navue of Nadi Muslim College won a silver medal with a time of 10.96s ahead of Jacob Debui of (SVC) with a time of 11.32s.

Ratu, a native of Soso in Naviti, Yasawa said he was im­pressed with his own time after he stopped the clock at 11.27s during the heats.

“It feels great to get that time in the final,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the Coke Games and aim to win my first gold medal and expect tough competition too out there.

“This is my second time to participate after I missed out on the medal placing last year in Suva.”

MATEIWAI FASTEST GIRL

Litiana Mateiwai of SVC won gold in the senior girls’ 100m ahead of Salaseini Tuwai of Ratu Navula while Mere Lewasa of SVC settled for bronze.

Emosi Tatawaqa of SVC won a gold medal with a leap of 12.17 metres in the Intermediate triple jump.

SSKMC’s Peter Timoci and Viliame Baledrokadroka both settled for silver and bronze respectively.

Panapasa Tawakece of RNC won gold in the senior boys 400m with a time of 51.02s ahead of team-mate Sakiasa Komaiwai. Aisake Nacola (SVC) settled for third spot.

BROKEN RECORDS

Nadi Zone director Pratik Kumar said, there were couple of false start and other technical issues recorded.

“There were technical defaults and we have sorted that out. There will be some re-runs. So, it is fair for all the schools,” he said.

There were a total of 31 records broken during the first day.

“The amount of records broken showed the high level of competition. “The synthetic track is helping of athletes.

“Some athletes moved here to Lautoka to get used to the tracks so it has helped them a lot.”

NEW SCHOOL

America’s International School made their debut in the zone as well.

“Year we have a high number of athletes participating from 14 schools. I would to thank the principals of the schools for contributing towards our zone competition,” he said.

“It was a good day fort the schools from Nadi. The inte­rior schools like Magodro and Nasesevia did very well.”

Meanwhile, Natabua High School and Jasper Williams High School are the Lautoka zone champions.

The Nadi competition continues today.
