Improvement in governance is one of the key areas Netball Fiji president Ruby-Ann Sorovaki hopes to see in the future; aligning to the constitution and policies.
Sorovaki is keen to serve another term as president if she is re-appointed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 24 in Suva.
Her term from 2020 expires this year.
“In our stakeholders’ workshop in November there was healthy discussion on the formation of a board for more effective governance of the sport and benefits,” Sorovaki said.
“This includes allowing diverse expertise to move netball forward, the dynamics of which will again be discussed at the AGM as agreed at the workshop,” she said.
“To make informed decisions in the sport for training and development needs, marketing, high performance and most importantly in the budget space we need data.
“While we have been able to collate some data to assist in these areas, this will continue to be a priority going forward and there has been some background work going into how this can be done better by engaging our stakeholders.”
Another area of improvement would be in education and training netball communities.
She said while there has been a significant growth in these areas there is still a gap in knowledge sharing.
“Bridges need to be built in the communities to ensure consistency in the timely delivery of programmess and selection of the right people.”
Sorovaki added: “Netball is played for only an hour on court, our major emphasis and work has been to develop and lift everything that happens in the various spaces and ecosystems off the court to ensure that the one hour game itself is lifted.
“Leadership over these past four years has been humbling and rewarding. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve and to help guide and implement the changes that have worked for us in netball.”
