The Nasekula Rugby Club is ready to compete in next month’s Fiji Bitter sponsored Savusavu and Service Labasa, sevens rugby tournaments.

This was after A Hussain & Co PTE Limited donated a set of rugby jerseys, socks and t-shirts to the club yesterday.

The Tui Labasa, Ratu Jone Qomate, while receiving the sponsorship on behalf of the club, thanked the company’s managing director, Hazeem Hussein, for the kind gesture.

Ratu Jone said the company had been assisting the club for more than 20 years.

“This club had been in existence for more than 50 years and has produced talented players who have represented Fiji and other countries,” Ratu Jone said.

“Hussein (the company owner), who is originally from Nasekula also has close ties with the villagers and the club.”

Over the years the club has produced players like Meliki Baleicakau, Emosi Tatawaqa, Jope Tuikabe and Orisi Sareki who have represented Fiji in the fifteens and sevens rugby. The list includes former national rugby triallists Eroni Latianara and Ratu Maikali Dimuri.

Australia A winger Filipo Daugunu, brother Tevita Daugunu who is the current Fijian 7s captain also represented the club.

When asked about the total cost of the sponsorship, Hussein said, anything given with love and kindness has no price tag.

He assured the club of his continuous support since he is the third generation in his family to be running their business; which deals in hardware, machinery and agricultural products.

“Rugby unites the Nasekula village youths and helps them in terms of discipline,” he said.

“The sponsorship provides a pathway for them to showcase their skills and talents. It will also assist and allow them the opportunity to make a name in rugby.”
