The newly formed Navy Albatros rugby league team yesterday received a boost with Bula Outsourcing stepping in to sponsor them.
The sponsorship include merchandise, training kits and other rugby league items as they prepare to participate in the APCO Fiji 9s at Lawaqa Park, tomorrow.
Bula Outsourcing chief executive officer Josie Prasad said they would start with a one-year deal.
“We always look into long term, not only for funding but other things like mentorship for the team and the other ways where we can help,” Prasad said.
The Navy Rugby league team is coached by former Fiji Bati rep Petty Officer Sevanaia Koroi. Koroi had rounded up the players to form the team.
“We reached the semi-finals with Police Sharks, that qualified us for the APCO Fiji 9s,” Koroi said.
“This is the first time Navy is participating in the 9s tournament."
Majority of the players have been with us since last year."
“Most of them are civilians with only a few of them enlisted with the navy."
"We thank Bula Outsourcing for their confidence, for coming on board.”
The Fiji 9s see the top eight teams from the Eastern Zone battle against the top eight from the Western zone.
Koroi who played for the Fijian Bati in the 2008 World Cup in Australia has been guiding the team with Ilisavani Jegesa who featured in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
