The Qauia sports day on Saturday at Johnny Singh Park was to bring youths together and identify their sports talents.
This was the comment of organiser and chairwoman for Lami district council and Social Services Taufa Qoro St John.
The sports day was organised by the Southern Division Community Policing Unit with the support of the Lami/Qauia business community and stakeholders.

“The main reason why we want to organise this, is that the crime rate keeps rising and it is a red zone area. We decided to organise a youth sports day so that the youths of Qauia could divert from it.” St John said.
“We want to them to know each other and we could see what talents they have, in sports, they are just there going with the crowd and peer pressure.
“Boxing and rugby wanted to be part of the sports day and other parts of Lami. We are piloting it now in Qauia. The next one we will invite all the communities in Lami,” she added.

band led the march from Qauia with the youths marking the opening of the sports day.
