Despite the rivalry among schools during the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Final, – in many cases – everlasting friendships have been established creating memories for those in their last year in school.
This was the view of Miliakade Mainavatuwai, a Marist Brothers High School prospect in the senior boys sprint events.
The Fiji Finals, which is commonly known as the Coca-Cola Games is set for April 22-24 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
The Games was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It will be special for Year 13 students because it’s our last year in school,” Mainavatuwai said.
“It’s always a dream for any final year student to participate at the Coke games and winning is even sweeter.
“This is my first Coca-Cola Games. When I heard the news from my parents I was really happy because this is my last year and I want to participate.
“I want to stamp my mark and set the standard for my fellow brothers to follow.”
Mainavatuwai said last year he clocked 10.8 seconds and this year his aim was to improve on his time.
The Tunuloa native from Cakaudrove added that MBHS have been working hard to improve on their performance.
“Our aim is to regain lost glory and make everyone happy. We last won in 2016 and it has been a long time coming but we do understand that our rivals Suva Grammar will be gunning for the title as well.”
The MBHS interhouse competition will be completed tomorrow.
