The Fiji Football Association, yesterday morning launched the McDonald’s Talent Development League at Suva’ Albert Park as a strategic pathway plan to develop players from an early age right up to national level.

Speaking to SUNsport, Fiji FA’s Head of Talent Sunil Kumar said they have 160 teams and are targeting more than 2000 kids.

“We want to give every talent a chance especially at a young age so we can develop them for our future national team,” he said.

The McDonald’s Talent Development League also consists of mixed teams as they are targeting more than 500 girls.

“We are trying to strengthen our future national team as we have talent all around,” Kumar said.

McDonald’s gave $450,000 to Fiji FA last year along with giveaways and vouchers to support the programme.

“We are very grateful to McDonald’s for coming on board and supporting talent development from a very young age.”

Chief Guest and Fiji’s only professional footballer Roy Krishna said his involvement in the talent development league is to motivate the kids to take up football.

“This is a great opportunity as the credit goes to Fiji Football and McDonald’s for creating this type of event.”

Krishna in currently in the country after the end of the Indian Super League season as he plans to relax and enjoy quality time with his family.

“It’s a great opportunity as this is a place where you learn to mould your talent and a lot of clubs normally sign kids at a very young age.

It’s a great platform for Fiji Football and hopefully the scouts can come and believe in not just Fiji but in Oceania talents because they’ll need the support they can get,” he added.
