The Cakaudrove Rugby Union (CRU) Super Saturday competition was a great hit, says head coach Rayne Simpson.
Six teams from Savusavu, Wailevu, Lomanitoba, Taveuni and Cakaudrove East One and Two competed in the senior division while the Under-20 division was represented by four teams from Taveuni, Savusavu, Wailevu and Lomanitoba.
Simpson said Super Saturday was a culmination of significant work done by Union committee members, in partnership with the Roko Tui Cakaudrove and provincial office, at the end of 2017.

“We were delighted to see players across the tikina’s come and participate in the event,” he said.
“It has been a long time since the vanua has been united in such a way, and we were particularly excited to have Taveuni attend as they are a critical piece to that unity.”

Savusavu came out winners of the senior division after beating Lomanitoba 3-0 in the final. The U20 division was won by Lomanitoba after beating Taveuni 8–0.
Simpson said the Super Saturday also allowed the union to view coaches and managers in action, so that these talented volunteers could also be recruited into union’s Provincial programme for 2018.
“I was impressed with some of the talents on display and I’m excited to announce the extended squad and commence preparations with them,” Simpson said.
“Due to the overwhelming response by teams and the efforts of players, the Cakaudrove Rugby Union will be holding a further selection process commencing on Saturday, March 3 at Ratu Ganilau Park.”
NOTICE
All players selected are required to be at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu no later than 12 noon on Saturday, March 3, with their playing gear. Any queries can be directed to Simpson on 7643919
