The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua opened their Super W defence campaign with a 32-21 win over Queensland Reds at the Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

The Fijians ran in six tries to gain a bonus point while Reds managed only three.

Drua captain Karalaini Naisewa said they had to focus on their structure.

"At the same time we had to open it up and play our usual style of Fijiana rugby," she said.

Debutant winger Merewarita Neivosa scored two tries and made one try assist.

The Drua took time to settle down and were sloppy with their passes. The Reds made use of the situation to hold a handy 7-0 lead.

The Drua struck back with a try to blindside flanker Teresia Tinanivalu after a break by winger Merewarita Neivosa, which was not converted by Luisa Tisolo.

Trailing 7-5, the Drua managed their second try from Neivosa who breezed past Ivania Wong to score in the corner with the conversion going wide for a 10-7 lead at halftime.

In the second half Drua, ran in tries to bustling centre Vani Arei, burly prop Anasimeci Korovata, openside flanker Sulita Waisega and Neivosa. Tisolo landed one conversion.

The Drua takes on the Waratahs in their next Super W match at Lautoka's Churchill Park, on Saturday.
