Suva Grammar School senior boy’s 100metres runner Semesa Daginivalu wants to be the next Banuve Tabakaucoro.

Tabakaucoro is the reigning Pacific Games men’s 100m and 200m champion.

The Year 12 student said he had to improve his time and has set his eyes on winning the senior boy’s 100m race at the Suva Zone Two and the Coca-Cola Games.

Daginivalu recorded the fastest time in the heats.

The Namosi lad is very conscious about his diet and his exercise routines.

“This is a very important year for me and a tough one as there are many things that I want to achieve by the end of this year,” he said.

“I am aiming for the Blue Ribbon event at the Coca-Cola Games. At the same time I have to keep up with my academic work as I have a national exam to sit for. There has to be a balance in everything we do.”

The aspiring athlete says he is also hoping to participate in the Pacific Games and the Olympic Games, one day.

Grammar is the defending boy’s champions of the Coca-Cola Games.

Meanwhile, SGS assistant principal Emosi Kuli said they’re treating their athletes equally, that is with students that had been representing the school for the past years and the new ones that are coming in.

“All I can say is that we’re preparing well and we are at a level platform," Kuli said.

“We’re anticipating the challenge from the other schools that is natural for a champion school.”

About 500 athletes competed in the Inter-house competition at the HFC Bank Stadium today.

Kuli said they would select their best athletes to represent the school after the zonal competition.

At midday today, Blue House was leading the medal tally with 8 gold, 6 silvers, 6 bronze, followed by Green House with 8 gold medal, 5 silvers, 9 bronze. Yellow House in third spot with 5 gold, 6 silvers, 3 bronze and Red House with 4 gold, 5 silvers and 7 bronze medals.

The competition still continues.
