The Suva Netball Association has nominated Vasiti Vugakoto to be the next president of Netball Fiji.
This is an election year for Netball Fiji and votes will be held for relevant nominees at their Annual General Meeting tomorrow at the Vodafone Arena conference room.
SNA president Georgina Lasaqa said Vugakoto was the best candidate for the role being a former national rep and champion of grassroots development with the Lomaiviti club.

“We submitted five nominees, four nominees did not meet the constitution criteria,” Lasaqa said.
“It became invalid except for Vasiti Vugakoto; we will continue to push and promote someone into the seat that has really shown a lot of growth and development within our district.

Vugakoto is the president of Suva men’s and mix association.
Lasaqa added that Vugakoto’s club has more than 13 teams playing in all grades.
Major associations are entitled to two votes while minors have one.
“The committee itself has about nine to ten votes; that is something Suva is fighting for to change and also to charge a flat levy for big and small associations respectively, so each year every association can pay.
“When they pay, everyone has voting and speaking rights, because you do not deprive any association from growing, from minimising the numbers of teams per category or number of grades, but that has been thrown out twice (in the last two AGMs).
“We have this issue on affiliation and membership fees, Suva continues to pay its affiliation but continues to fight in terms of growth and development of the sport in the country.
“We feel the levies passed onto us by Netball Fiji are not viable for an association to run.
“We’re fortunate to have NewWorld as our sponsors, without our sponsor it is going to be a tough battle.
“Few fallbacks but we act in the interest of our clubs.
We will continue to prioritise our members,” Lasaqa added.
Meanwhile, in an earlier interview current NF president RubyAnn Sorovaki indicated that she was keen to serve another term.
