Suva rugby head coach, Solo Nute, told SUNsports yesterday that his team’s unbeaten run is influenced by their winning culture from last year.

After eight rounds of Skipper Cup competition, the Capital City side has remained unbeaten.

“The main part of our consistency is working hard, and we hope it will be materialised in the game (against Nadi) this Friday,” the former Suva and Police prop said.

“We are preparing well as we had our recovery on Monday and there’s a few niggling injuries, but all is well.”

Nute said a few of his players would be rested this week.

“We will need to improve on our set piece especially our scrums and we will need to tighten up on our defence as well,” he said.

“The players did some tremendous work by containing the Naitasiri attack when we were down with one man.”

Nute said their formula of winning rugby is not only on attack but it is also determined by their strong defence.

“We are trying to strengthen both our attack and defence against our competitors on a weekly basis,” he said.

“We are glad to have a few veteran players in our side like former Fijian Drua captain Nemani Nagusa, Enele Malele and Terio Tamani.”

Nute said the experienced Suva players bring in wealth of knowledge and skills from the Fijian Drua and the national sevens rugby set-up.

“We hope to also maintain discipline especially against a determined Nadi team,” he said.

“We will need the support of the Suva fans in Nadi in our match this Friday.”

Nute said his side would do the talking in the field with the aim to maintain their winning streak.

Nadi hosts Suva at Prince Charles Park in their round nine Skipper Cup clash on Friday.

The Under-20 match kicks-off at 2pm followed by seniors at 4pm.
