Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova was pleased with the performance of swimmers that met the qualification time at the Long Course Grand Prix 2 competition at the Damodar Aquatic Centre, Suva yesterday.
Speaking to SUNsports, Rova said the competition was an exciting one.
“Few of our swimmers made it to the silver timing,” Rova said.
“We had a total of nine clubs competing in round two of the Long Course Grand Prix where three clubs were from the west while six came from the Central division. These athletes who have made the qualifying times will be joining the shadow Commonwealth squad to train for the upcoming championship.
“We are targeting a total of 24 swimmers to be part of the Oceania squad from these competitions that will represent Fiji to the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa as well as the Oceania Swimming Championship in June.”
Rova said this was a good platform for swimmers to improve on their personal best as well as prepare themselves for the upcoming international and national championship.
Meanwhile, three of our local based- swimmers that were part of Commonwealth team will be departing next Sunday (March 18) for Gold Coast, Australia while the two overseas based- swimmers will depart with Team Fiji contingent on March 30.
