Taekwondo Debutants Win Silver Medals

Suva Grammar School’s Year 11 student Lolohea Naitasi achieved the same in the lightweight 62kg category. She also lost 2-0 to Kawehi Iorss of Tahiti.

Team Fiji’s Sol 2023 Pacific Games debutants, Tanisha Chand, and Lolohea Naitasi, won silver medals in their respective Taekwondo events in Honiara, Solomon Islands on Tuesday.

Chand, 21, is an Information Technology (IT) support officer at Niranjan’s took out the silver medal after going down 2-0 loss to Yvette Boyama of Papua New Guinea in the Female Under-46kg category final.

Looking back on her performance, Chand said she has been in the sport the last eight years and it is finally paying off for her.

“I’m happy to claim this silver medal,” she said.

“I will continue to represent Fiji as long as I can.”

Suva Grammar School’s Year 11 student Lolohea Naitasi achieved the same in the lightweight 62kg category. She also lost 2-0 to Kawehi Iorss of Tahiti.

Naitasi, originally from Daku Village in Nakelo, Tailevu, said the competition was tough.

“Despite that, it was another achievement for me as a first timer to win silver at a regional sporting event.

“I’m content with this since I had joined the sport last year,” she said.

The duo will compete in the Oceania event at the same venue today.
