Team Mana men’s and women’s teams are the new inclusions to this season’s Nadi Basketball Association (NBA) competition.

The teams made their debut in round one of the Summer League 2022 at the Fiji Airports hard court in Namaka on Saturday.

NBA president, Jone Tavuki, said they had done a soft launch last weekend.

“The event started last year and this year we have eight men’s and five women’s teams. So, a total of 13 teams that are participating in the Summer League,” Tavuki said.

“We are planning to run the games for about eight to nine weeks, with weather permitting. The event was well-attended.”

He added that their support comes from the community.

“With close to 200 young people participating in the Summer League, this year, it’s also good to see a lot of old faces in Namaka.”

Trojans (men’s) and Hot Shorts (women’s) have returned to play in the revived Lautoka Basketball Association, which contains eight men’s and five women’s teams.

“Given the fact that they’ve been active for the longest time and they’ve been competitive. “They’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the Lautoka competition.

“This year there won’t be any Easter Basketball Championship compared to past years but the respective association will be having their own competition,” Tavuki said.
