Fiji’s heavyweight boxing champion, James ‘The Beast’ Singh, faces Willis Meehan at the Melbourne Pavilion, Flemington, Victoria, in Australia, on Saturday.
The match is the fifth supporting bout to the Australasian heavyweight title fight between Kris Terzievski and Kato Falefehi.
Singh departed our shores alongside welterweight champ Ronald Naidu, Nitin Lal and veteran trainer Chanchal Babba Kumar on Tuesday.
Naidu faces Australia’s Qamil Balla in the second supporting bout.
The Coral Coast based slugger Singh is looking forward to this fight and has prepared well.
“Got this, but I like nothing better than dancing with a son of a great champion, Kali Meehan,” he said.
“Everyone says I’m crazy, to be honest I am. Guys, you only live once, never let somebody take that away from you.”
Meehan, 26, is the son of Australian boxer Kali (Kalivati) Gerald Meehan, who is of Fijian descent.
Willie plays rugby league and he also boxes.
Singh has fought 10 times, won seven and lost three since he turned pro in 2018.
Meehan is undefeated in 11 bouts (9 KOs) since he turned pro on November 22, 2014.
Aussie based- Krishnil Mudaliar will face Ibrahim Balla in the lightweight category (6 x 3mins).
Mudaliar has 14 bouts with 9 wins (6 KOs), and five losses since he turned pro in 2009, while Balla has 15 bouts under his belt, 13 wins (7 KOs) and 2 losses since he turned pro in 2013.
Debutant Nitin Lal will face Brian Agina in the super-bantamweight (4 x 3mins).
World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific Matchmaker/Coordinator Simon Naushad who handled the logistics said, four Fijian boxers will be flying the country’s flag under Brian Amatruda’s Big Time Boxing.
“We need to give credit to BCF in providing the clearance for these athletes,” he said.
He thanked his Australian counterpart Justin Kennedy for his help.
“Without him this would not be achieved,“ Naushad said.
