The Saunaka rugby 7s team received a major boost in their preparation for his weekend’s Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens tournament at Prince Charles Park, Nadi. The Nadi based- side received $10,000 sponsorship yesterday from McDonald’s Fiji.
McDonald’s Fiji managing director Marc McElrath said the ongoing sponsorship was a commitment from McDonald’s to give back to the sport of sevens rugby in Nadi.
“The new sponsorship agreement of $10,000 will be for another 12 months and will also include kaji rugby and netball teams as well,” he said.
“Its part of the commitment as McDonald’s has been supporting Saunaka rugby for the last five years and this new agreement will further the relationship into the future.”
Saunaka Rugby 7s sponsorship chairman Ponijese Raiyasi said the assistance would help the team in their preparation for the Nawaka Sevens.
“This sponsorship means a lot to Saunaka, our partnership with McDonald’s has helped our boys prepare for all the tournaments in Fiji,” he said.
“We are looking forward to the Nawaka sevens this weekend and we hope to do our best for our sponsors.”
He said the team would remain as McDonald’s Saunaka in all competitions they play in this season.
They are led by Atama Susu, plucky playmaker Sela Toga, Livai Saukuru, and Josaia Roko.
Saunaka is the home of Fiji Airways Fijian 7s utility backs and Olympians Vatemo Ravouvou and Kitione Taliga.
In the past decades Saunaka Rugby has produced top players like Sela Toga (Snr), Ratu Josateki Sovau, Nasivi Ravouvou, Ilaitia Ravouvou, Apisai Toga and the list goes on.
