Nippy halfback Mereula Toroti played an instrumental role for her Marist Sea Hawks 1 side as they beat Striders 17-7 to win the women’s title of the 43rd Fiji Bitter Marist 7s last night.
“My aim now is to fight my way back to the national 7s squad and claim the playmaker’s position,” she told SUNsports.
“My performance tonight was good, I’m happy with the way I played.”
She got the Player of the Final award and received $500.
A strong start from Seahawks in the first half saw them scored three tries- Toroti and Ana Roqica scoring a double for a 17-0 lead at half time.
Striders fought back with a lone try to Asinate Savu.
Striders coach Tavaita Rowati said: “It was a good learning lesson for us and we build from here.
“Seahawks got good players and we just lost too many balls.”
