Strong running Swire Shipping Fijian Drua centre Apisalome Vota is a man on a mission.
After a strong performance for the Drua at the 2022 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition, Vota struggled to find his mojo last season after his performance being hampered by injuries. This resulted in him missing out of the Rugby World Cup in France.
However, the never-say-die attitude of this Navuso, Naitasiri, native saw him make his comeback while playing for Nadroga in the Skipper Cup and INKK Mobile Farebrother Sullivan Trophy challenge.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, the 27-year-old is eager to take the field in the Drua’s Super Rugby opener against the Blues at Okara Park in Whangarei on Saturday, February 24.
“I’ve just recovered from an ankle injury,” Vota said.

“I managed to get surgery and I had rehabilitation phase from October to January. My preparation has been going well and I’m ready for the game against the Blues.”
Vota played in the Drua’s first pre-season match against the Brumbies and scored a try despite losing 43-40.
He will give his 100 per cent for the Fijian Drua side in this Super Rugby season.
“My target this year is to be selected again in the Flying Fijians squad, so I’ll give my all this year for the Super Rugby season,” he said. He has already set his eyes on playing for the Flying Fijians in the July 20 (Fiji time) Test match against the All Blacks in San Diego, United States.
“I’m trying to improve on my kicking, agility and running lines as it will benefit me with the position I play.”
Vota said with the many young players in the squad he is confident that they would combine well and play as a team. He is one of the senior players in the Drua squad and part of the leadership team that assist captain Meli Derenalagi.
“I want to thank the medical team for giving me ample time during my recovery phase. I also like to thank the trainers and coaches for keeping me fit and preparing me for this season.”
Vota also acknowledged his team-mates for the assistance and contributions made to the Drua during the last two seasons.
“Last season was a good season for us but coming up this season we hope to give our best and take our performance to another level.
“I’m looking forward to play against the New Zealand clubs on their own turf.”
