Tough Road Ahead For Northland

Retaining their top spot in the Central Division pool of the Royal Tea Fiji Rugby Ranadi Cup Women’s Championship will be tough for Northland.

This was after their 42-0 loss to Nasinu at St Marcellin Primary School ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

Northland topped their pool last year when they took on Northern Bulls, Nasinu and Rewa.However, this year Rewa have been replaced by Ovalau.

Northland head coach Unaisi Gaunavou said it was a challenge getting the team together.

“Majority of the girls are secondary school students who are inspired to play rugby after seeing the Fijiana 7s and 15s performances,” she said.

“They are mostly students from St Vincent College, Naiyala High School and Tailevu North College. Their age ranges from as young as 15-year-old to 29. Coming into this big competition is new for them.

“In the last competition, they came first in this pool and it’s really a challenge for us to defend that title,” Gaunavou added.
