It was not easy for Olympic Games gold medallist, Asaeli Tuivuaka, to change his mind in the eleventh hour to take-up the contract to play for Italian rugby club Zebre.

Tuivuaka, was one of players who was to have secured a spot with the Fijian Drua to play in the Super Rugby Pacific when it starts in February.

He was on the verge to be contracted when the announcement of him leaving was made.

Tuivuaka admitted to SUNsports yesterday that his family wanted him to stay with the Drua.

“My family was not happy about it (move to Italy) and told me not to take up the offer,” he said.

“They want me to stay in Fiji and play for Fiji (Drua).”

Tuivuaka said the reason he opted to go was to fulfill his dream of playing for an overseas club.

“I always wanted to play for an overseas club, get more experience, and build my rugby career.

“If things change, I will definitely come back to Fiji.

“I just want to go and take up the offer. I love it, and I’m happy about it. I’m looking forward to leaving this month.”
