Tuwai Encourages Hotel Workers To Be Committed

Fiji Airways Fijian sev­ens star halfback Jerry Tuwai while opening the annual Tanoa Interna­tional Hotel sports day in Nadi shared three things that as­sisted him achieve his sport­ing goals.

Tuwai said while being part of the team environment for more than 10 years, his suc­cessful sports career focused on three pillars.

• Always do more,
• Accountability and
• Communication

Tuwai shared how he would wake up early in the morning at 4am when everyone were sleeping, to do his morning runs regardless of where he is.

“That is one thing that I have learned. You always do more when no one is looking,” Tu­wai said.

“That’s something that will develop you as an individual and create something new in you. That will go for a long time,” he said.

The second pillar is account­ability.

“Always be accountable for what you do.

“If you do something wrong when you are training or what­ever, put your hands up and say that I’m wrong, regardless of the consequences it will al­ways create a clear conscience for you.

“When you return home, you’ll relax as it will give you an experience for a lifetime.

“Lastly, is communication in line with work or match time.”

Tuwai said that it was benefi­cial when team defends the try line.

“It is always good to commu­nicate to have a great connec­tion. It creates a bonding. It’s like people will build a team and it will create more aware­ness.”

Tuwai shared that as a rugby player he has learnt that you cannot win all the time, you win some and you lose some.

“We have lost a lot of tourna­ments, we faced a lot criticism, and are verbally abused. There are some things that the eyes do not see.

“The people don’t see the work we do, behind the cur­tains with team training and there was our individual train­ing as well,” he said.

Tanoa Hotel Group’s area geneal manager Fiji, Narend Kumar ,said the sports day was also part of the Tanoa Way strategy.

“After the two years of COVID, we survived and then we had so much to do in the last couple of months which were amazing.

“For the new recruits, this is Tanoa Way and this is how we operate. I want to stress to the newcomer that this is all about Tanoa.

Meanwhile, Tanoa Interna­tional Hotel was crowned the overall winner for the Tanoa Cup and Rakiraki Tanoa Hotel settled as runner up.
