A newly formed team, Village Boys, is out to stamp their mark at the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia Sevens which kicks off at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, today.

The Under-20 side was established in December last year and won its first title at the Lomaiviti Sevens in Levuka, Ovalau, last month.

Coach Epeli Matata Male said while there were major challenges faced, it did not deter the side from participating in the Fiji Bitter Sevens Series.

He is grateful of the support of former team-mate Sireli Maqala and Flying Fijians star centre Semi Radradra.

He believes that their financial support towards the team have helped these young players achieve their dreams in rugby.

The team also fundraise for their trip by organising kava barrels and would start selling lovo packs from next week.

“Every team has prepared well for a tournament like Nahehevia,” Male said.

“We will play our best and prove that we are also a team to beat despite being newly formed.

“These are young boys who are high school leavers while a few attend tertiary institutions and are passionate about rugby and hope to earn their name in the sport.”

Members of the team are former students of Marist Brothers High School, Ba Provincial Freebird Institute, Queen Victoria School, Ratu Kadavulevu School and a few others.

Village Boys is in Pool D where they face Loboya Youth, Sea Breeze and Birdland Brothers.
