Vodafone Fiji has again reiterated its support for rugby in the country by announcing a sponsorship worth of $15,000 for the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament.
Vodafone Fiji chief operating officer Ronald Prasad said they were proud and excited to be part of the event, which is much more than just 7s rugby.
“The 42nd Fiji Bitter Marist 7s has come a long way in supporting grass roots rugby development in Fiji,” he said.
“Platforms of this nature continue to churn many big names that have gone and played for Fiji and secured lucrative contracts abroad. William Ryder, Jerry Tuwai and Amenoni Nasilasila are some players that were spotted in the Marist Sevens.”
Prasad said: Vodafone Fiji is passionate about results and within our sponsorship tenure, the national sevens team brought home the country’s first ever Olympic gold medal and back-to-back World Rugby Sevens Series title. We are optimistic that our contribution towards the upcoming Marist Sevens will help in staging yet another cracker of a tournament and in the process help discover more new talent.”
Prasad said to successfully deliver a spectacle of this magnitude with 64 men and 12 women’s teams requires among many other things, reliable communications and ICT services.
“We are proud to be the preferred telecommunications and ICT solutions partner for the biggest and oldest sevens tournament in Fiji. As part of our sponsorship, we are providing phones, airtime and internet for streaming.
“We share similar characteristics and passion for the game and of course excitement and anticipation of what the Marist Sevens has to offer come, March 23.”
The tournament will be played from March 23-24 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
