The Apakuki Tavodi- captained Vodafone Fiji Residents thrashed Tonga Residents 50-4 at Churchill Park, Lautoka, last night.

The Fijians ran in 10 tries to one with centre Atueta Guivalu and winger Josefa Lalawa scoring a brace of tries each in the second spell. Halftime: Fiji 20-4 Tonga.

Maika Serulevu, Penaia Leveleve, Vereti Bukavesi, Simione Koroikata, scored for Fiji Residents in the first spell while Tonga’s lone try came from centre Peni Maufualu. In the second half, Fiji restarted with soldier Ropate Tobe, and Waisea Nasekai also scoring.

Fiji Residents Coach Brandon Costin said: “We tried to stay disciplined and perform our game plan.

“Our plan for bigger and better days, we have our fingers crossed, we will have a team in the New South Wales Cup next year, so we have to play like professional players.”

Tonga Residents team manager Fisi Kaufusi said: “We expected the match not to be tough as this, but the scoreline says it all. Our boys did play their best and we will regroup for the next match.”

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team beat England 52-14 in their first Pool game last night at the Paris 7s.
