Volau Wins Silver In New Event

Rupeni Volai won Labasa College's first medal today at the 2022 Coca-Cola Games.

The 19-year old Nakalou, Macuata, native won silver in the senior boy’s triple jump with a distance of 13.44metres.

He was a centimetre short behind Suva Grammar School's Varinava Murimuriwaca who won gold with a jump of 13.45.

Volai only learnt the specific jump this year, he only participated in long jump in the previous years.

"The teachers helped me with the training but most of the time I just do my own," he said.

"This is my first Coca-Cola Games and to be honest I only wanted to come and experience what it’s like to be at the Games. Being at the Cokes is a dream come true but this medal is a bonus."

Volai wants to be a civil engineer when he leaves school.

The bronze medal was won by Josefa Sokota of Marist Brothers High School with a distance of 13.20m.
