Wakemam Is Top Angler

Last month, Wakeman was crowned the junior angler at the 2020 Fiji Classic tournament also held at Denarau and is becoming one of the better junior anglers in the country.

Zachary Wakeman scooped the champion angler award during the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club Final Awards Night.

The event was held at the Daikoku Restaurant in Nadi over the weekend. The International School Nadi student scored a total of 1009.8 points and won the most points for tag and release sailfish with 500.

“It is a good feeling to be given this award. There is more to come next year, our team worked really hard to win this year,” he said.

Last month, Wakeman was crowned the junior angler at the 2020 Fiji Classic tournament also held at Denarau and is becoming one of the better junior anglers in the country.

Incoming club president Marc McElrath thanked Jared Wood, the outgoing president for all the work done in such a challenging year. And he is excited to be working with the new committee after the annual general meeting.

Wood said the 2020 season was a very challenging year for everyone.

Wood thanked the sponsors for the year including Flame Tree, Five Star, Hidden Cam, Port Denarau, Cardos Steakhouse, Blue Gas, Radisson Blu, Shimano, Interior Plaster System, McDonalds Fiji and Neat Feat.

“All the best in 2021 as with the new president, (Marc McElrath) I am sure the new committee will continue to put on world class events; I can now concentrate on my fishing and look forward to more family time”
