Veteran bodybuilder and powerlifter, Param Sivan is willing to help those who want to take up both sports.
“I took up bodybuilding and powerlifting in trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” he told SUNsports.
“After 40 years of participating I’m willing to help aspiring bodybuilders and powerlifters in Lautoka.”

Sivan said he took up the sport in 1979 after watching some movies.
“I watched how they lifted stones so I told myself that one day I will be a bodybuilder. But little did I know that I’ll take up powerlifting as well.”
“That had been my training routine,” he added.
At the age of 59, Sivan works for Rajendra’s Foodtown Supermarket in Lautoka as a supervisor.
“I stopped training from 1981 because of work commitments then I started again in 1995. I’ve won around 20 medals.
“Last year I was supposed to go to Nauru for competition but couldn’t make it due to the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.
Sivan also represented Fiji at the 2003 South Pacific Games in Suva.
“My next target is to prepare for the powerlifting competition that will take place in March. My target this year is to lift 150 kilogrammes. At the moment I’m lifting 141 to 145.
“I’m putting another five or 10kg extra because 150kg or 155 is the target of my deadlift, and bench press is 85kg and my squat is 105kg.
“Also there’s another powerlifting competition in October where they will pick the Fiji team for the Oceania championship.”
Over the years Sivan has trained alongside top powerlifters, like Iliesa Ravono and Sainimili Turner also known as ‘Aunty Mili’.
