The Peni Tikosaya coached West Fiji Dolphins rugby team have launched their squad for the Vodafone Fiji National Rugby League 2018 season.

The players met at the Rhum-Ba, Denarau Yacht Club, in Port Denarau Marina last weekend to receive their new playing kits and training apparel.

The team won the Vodafone Nines competition in Sigatoka early this month and Dolphins head coach Peni Tikosaya was excited of the prospect of the new season.

“We have prepared well and we are really enjoying training and getting to know the new players,” Tikoyawa said.

“We have recruited several players from rugby union so we have had to go back to basics and ensure that all our players are comfortable with the intricate skills of rugby league.”

“Culture is a big thing for us at the Dolphins and pre-season has been focused on ensuring all our players are aware of our expectations of them and also what they should expect from us,” he added.

“We know it will be an extremely tough competition this year. We can’t wait for the season to begin,” he said.

The West Fiji Dolphins, managed by Chris Tomlinson and Lauren Jagger of the Petero Civoniceva Foundation, will field teams in the Premier grade and Under 18s division.

The team will be captained by Ratu Navula College student Jonetani Bokini.

“We thank our sponsors Recon Solutions, Coffeys EMS, Hall Pacific and Pacific Fitness for supporting us and we hope that all our partners and supporters will enjoy following us on our journey this year,” Bokini said.

“We have enormous respect for the other clubs in Nadi and we are looking forward to testing ourselves against the best in Fiji.”

The FNRL Nadi Zone will kick-off on March 3 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

The West Fiji Dolphins Premiers will play Nadi Eels and their Under 18s will face Ravoravo Rabbitohs.
