Western Marine Rainfalls, $500 Richer After Win

Nadi based Western Marine Rainfalls took out the inaugural Pacific Girmit netball championship 2023 at the SSKMC hard court in Nadi on Monday.
The side consisting of regulars Sainiana Sau, Ana Taito, Asinate Tuvou and Alisi Neisulu, proved too strong defeating Marigolds Lautoka 17-6 in the Open grade grand final.
The mixed netball category final saw Suva based Unity defeating Western Marine Rainfalls 15-9 in the final.
The two winners each collected $500.
Championship chairperson Ashika Mala said the event was a success and it would be bigger and better next year.
“The tournament was a success, we can do better next year,” she said.
“This will be an annual event from now to mark Girmit Remembrance Day as sports is always about unity and diversity.”
She added the other eight teams were Seaside Mystics 1 (Nadi), Tuva (Sigatoka), Salad Bowl Thunderbirds (Sigatoka), Seaside Mystic 2, Valley Firebirds (Sigatoka).
There were two pools.
Five teams competed in the mixed round robin which included Seaside Stars Nadi, Western Marine Riverside Nadi, and Nawaka,
Chief umpire Bill Taylor congratulated the organisers for staging the one day event.
