The significance of Joeli Kalougata's name can be best described as being blessed and/or a blessing to his late parents and siblings, whom he lost when he was 12 years old.
The Fijian word "kalougata" is conservatively understood as the equivalent, to bless, blessed, and or blessing.
Fourty-nine years after surviving the sunken inter-island ship MV Uluilakeba at the height of Cyclone Lottie on December 10, 1973; his son, Ponipate Loganimasi, flew out with the Fiji Airways Fijian men's sevens team for this weekend's Los Angeles Sevens tournament.
Kalougata's name is a reflection of his survival from the sea ordeal.
